A Tale Of Two Teens
December 01, 1998
Courtney,16, and Jay, 15, met in 1998 while she worked as a hostess/server at Mikuni Japanese Restaurant in Sacramento. Jay, who had been frequenting Mikuni for years with his family, noticed a cute new hostess. Jay would find excuses, not that he needed them, to go to Mikuni to see Courtney. Even though they both had other priorities, the two would innocently flirt when the opportunity presented itself. Over the next few years, a friendship was formed between the two and their families. In 2001, Jay left Sacramento to attend college at the University of California Riverside and the two lost touch.
Several Years and Several Cities Later

With the help of social media, the two eventually reconnected, and they discovered they both had relocated to Southern California. In September 2019, Jay had been playing golf at Los Verdes Golf Course in Palos Verdes, not far from Courtney's new home in Playa del Rey and reached out to Courtney to suggest they catch up over dinner. Courtney accepted, and over a sushi (shocking) dinner, the two fondly reminisced over the good old days of Mikuni. After dinner, the two promised to keep in touch, and over the next few months, mostly cheering on the 49ers run to the Super Bowl, a strong friendship was built.
A Covid Coupling

Fast forward to when the world stood still. In April 2020, Jay reached out to Courtney to see how she was going to spend her “2 weeks” on lockdown. Opportunity knocked; Courtney had no plans. Jay “innocently” invited Courtney down to Carlsbad to make the best of the “end of the world” and spend more time with each other. Sparks flew and a romantic relationship was formed!
A FAMILY IS FORMED
Over the next few months their relationship grew and the two would commute between Los Angeles and Carlsbad. Courtney saw the bond that was growing between Jay and Johnny, and she could see what an excellent role model Jay was for a rapidly growing tween. In August of 2021, Courtney moved from Playa Del Rey to Carlsbad where their life began together. With the love and support they all had for each other, Courtney and Johnny felt right at home. By September 2022, Jay knew that his love for Courtney and Johnny was a forever one. On Sept. 14th, with Johnny’s permission, Jay asked Courtney to be his wife. The rest, as they say is history…
